Worth it - you could also consider a used one. Also, with sales coming up, possible to save a bit?

Aeron.

Get a used one. Half off.

I have damaged discs in my back from a lifetime of poor posture and a used Herman Miller Aeron from craigslist changed my life. I have been struggling with constant back pain for the past 5 years: pretty much my entire working life. I’ve seen all sorts of doctors, chiros, physical therapists. Spent thousands on MRIs, injections, and other procedures. This is the first time I’ve been pain free since maybe high school.

like

I seriously doubt that any consulting firms will let people do all remote that long. I personally would not spend 1k on a chair you can find many other good chairs for a lot less

Yes it’s worth it. I have an Aeron and an Embody.

like

Yea. I thought it was crazy but I literally have no back pain anymore

Look on marketplace or Craigslist. I got a Mirra v2 still with tags in the plastic for $400. Same thing on HM site was ~$1200.

The way to think of it is how long are you going to work from home for extended periods of time. Not just once everyone’s back in the office from COVID, but how many years do you have left in your career. Additionally, back pain is no joke as you age. the upgrade from a $3-400 chair to commercial quality, light years different. My vote is yes, worth it. 2 steelcase gesture. 1 for me, 1 for spouse

They have a 15% off sale at Herman Miller rn if you are interested for Aeron and Embody

like

Check if there are any office liquidation stores nearby. I have one close and they have tons in good condition for half off.

like

You can get one of the cheaper HMs like a Sayl - yes it's not as good as an embody, but it's half the price, a massive upgrade from everything else, and an embody is definitely not twice as good

like

How much longer will you be working from home?

My team was full time remote pre-COVID.

I wrote a rec letter for one of my legal assistants for law school right before COVID got bad and we all started working remote. Ever since then, this assistant has seemingly been slacking. There’s only so much I can actually see/review without seriously micromanaging her. I’ve spoken to her about her slacking at least twice and both times she just brushed it off. I want to withdraw my rec letter, but I feel like it’s too late. She is leaving at the end of the summer. Should I just let it be?

Career advice: I became an HR mgr/BP relatively early on in my career so have 7 years BP exp. and 9 overall. I work in pharma as a Sr. BP/manager now. I’d like to make a move into an AD or higher role but seem to only get consideration for lateral moves. Not sure if it’s because I don’t have enough experience or if I’ve never had direct reports? How did you make that first jump? I’d need to relocate for anything at my current org which is not possible for me right now. Thanks for insights!
