Is it a bad idea to leave my media buying full time job for a full time 3 month pr fellowship? I really want to get into PR, but is it worth the financial risk? The pay is the same just no benefits

What's the likelihood you can pivot the fellowship into a full time job? Do you have at least 3 months worth of savings to prop yourself up if there isn't a job at the end?

like

It's fairly likely that the fellowship will become a full time job. The program itself is designed to hopefully land you an opening internally at the end, but budgeting and openings definitely don't guarantee it.

I made a move from digital buying to pr and loved it. I was sick of getting briefs from the pr agency so decided to move upstream. Found it a way more creative atmosphere.

Go for it. If it’s something you really want, you’ll end up doing it at some point. Might as well be now.

I made the switch from sales to PR after 2 years in the field. Had to take an internship, but it was so worth it! It’s a short term investment in the career you want, so well worth it. It was a very tight few 4/5 months financially, but so short in the grand scheme of things. Good luck!

Curious why ‘fellowship’ instead of perm role. Your media experience is a great add for them and you’ll likely get the PR swing of things quickly. At least should be giving you role with benefits even if short term!

this agency tends to really promote from within and coordinator positions with them are fairly rare so its designed to ease you into the full coordinator role. Trust me i'd much rather go straight for the benefits too, but this agency isnt alone in its methodology unfortunately :(

I’m 30 years old and have been running my own (small) agency over the past two years, working with local businesses. I’ve got a solid book of client and spec work, with creative ad copy. I’ve also written for Sports Illustrated, so I can write anything from articles to ad copy. Before that, I worked in communications at a few law firms. Now I’m looking to work at an ad agency as a copywriter. Honest question: is it a reach to pursue that? And, if it isn’t a reach, do I apply for entry-level?
