Is it a bad idea to quit your job without one lined up? I have 3 YOE (£57k base) and I’m feeling burnt out already. I’m not dealing well with the workload and my mental health is getting worse. I genuinely feel that I’m becoming a negative person.

I guess I’m looking for comfort from people who have taken a break and it’s worked out well for them. Or should I stick it out before I find something better or on a similar salary?

Your mental health should be your priority. That being said, is it an option to take some time off to rest, recharge and clearly think about your options and what you want to do going forward?

What’s your employer’s sickness policy? Speak to your GP, explain that you are feeling burnt out and that you would benefit from some time off. They can write you a note and not specify the reason why you’re off. I once had a miscarriage and didn’t want my firm to know so the GP just wrote “time to recover from an hospital procedure”.

You got this!! 💪

Take a leave of absence, utilize your PTO, seek help before quitting!

Hey, I would recommend taking a leave of absence rather than completely quitting just so you have a backup in case of a quick recovery or any other change in circumstances.

I was at Deloitte before and I knew of 2 people who took this route so it is totally possible.

I took a break between jobs to think about my career path and happiness and it was awful - all my friends were busy, and it was winter, so if it was dark the whole time. when I decided to look for a new job, it took longer than expected, so my savings were running low and it was a little more stressful than expected.

So as others said, try to take an unpaid leave in your current job first.

like

Hey bud - sorry to hear you're feeling burnt out.

Having been in a similar situation a few years back, I'd seriously consider what the firm can offer before you decide to pack things in e.g.

- Therapy sessions (work private healthcare)
- Time off work (either paid / unpaid)

Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll be the right decision for you. Stay in there! 💪

like

Sorry to hear that.

A few things to consider: savings, living situation, support network (friends, family). If that’s secure and it is really bad, then you can do it. Otherwise it would make life a lot more stressful (e.g. anxiety due to lack of income/security). As others suggested, sick leave, annual leave etc are options for short term and might help to find a new job.

I was in a similar situation a couple years ago. I spoke to the Partner for my area and they were supported. Got a sicknote for my GP had 3 weeks off and then 2 week phased return back and used my private health care to do a 10 week course of CBT and really helped me come back and refreshed to go again.

Is it legal to dock pay, bonuses and/or origination payouts if billable time isn’t entered on time? Firm is threatening a 3 strike rule. Just seems off if you work for the money (it’s calculated based on rates/hours/business brought in) that they could threaten you this way. Firing? I understand that. I’m in Pennsylvania if that makes a difference.

Hello I am curious to know what people think of getting a masters degree in Data Science. I am looking at a program that is 32k which compared to others is not as expensive. I have experience with python and I work on my own projects but no professional experience. I am finding it extremely hard to break into an entry level data analyst role. I am hoping that a master degree would help with that process.
