But I just got back from my vacation
Apparently this email went out at Cohn Reznick
Hi everyone! I’m looking for a senior business development consulting or permanent position with a tech company (Adobe Facebook Amazon open to others.)
For the past 6 years I’ve been consulting in Japan as an independent contractor, since covid I left and cannot return since I don’t have a sponsored work visa.
Open to program mgmt, operations or project mgmt, anything would be appreciated! Thank you for any leads and good luck out there!

Some people at my office are saying no to the in-person party bc they don’t want to risk covid exposure to elderly relatives they’re seeing over Christmas and no one batted an eye. Pretty acceptable excuse.
I don’t think so under the current climate of COVID. I’m attending mine because it’s a relatively small group and outdoor on a rooftop. Also I’m a recent lateral and want to try to meet people since there haven’t been many opportunities to.

Do you want to make partner or get particular work from someone?
My answer to both of those things was no, so I always refused to spend any of my scant free and non-billable time on firm-related things.
This is great advice in general
I got COVID going to mine— all the regrets, wouldn’t recommend.
I am not going to mine - biglaw but smaller office (40-50attorneys). But invite really stressed its optional and we are not in office. Oh and I am waiting for my conflicts to clear at a lateral position 🤷🏻♂️
Considering the global pandemic I would say it’s a bad look if your firm gets peeved you don’t go
One holiday party at a large office resulted in a COVID outbreak and all the other holiday parties in other offices were subsequently canceled.
Not worth it.
Are people still using COVID as an excuse to not go to things? Maybe it’s because I’m in south Florida where COVID ended before it started, but i feel like everyone can tell that just an excuse to not go.

I mean look I defer to reputable public health experts and whatever on what we should be doing, yada yada
But I think maybe probably worth pointing out that your described sample is probably biased in favor of people who are, y’know, alive?
I'm not going to mine, indoor dinner with 100+ people. I've got a medically vulnerable parent and a kid too young for vaccination. I was pretty nervous about saying no (I'mnew), but the partner I work for told me it's fine. I'm apparently not the only person concerned.
At this point, given the world we live in, I doubt there’s a downside to skipping out (and if there is a downside, then maybe it’s not the best firm to work with); however, there may be a benefit to going depending on where you’re at and what trajectory you’re on.

Curious too. Biglaw, indoor party. I have vacation scheduled in two weeks and don’t really want to risk it.

Lots of people do not go in any given year - and that’s before Covid and the disruptions it has brought. If you don’t want to go, don’t go.
I think I’ve been once or twice in my entire 8 year tenure at my current firm. It’s always scheduled at an inconvenient date/time when I have a conflict - my kiddo is a ballet dancer and December is Nutcracker season. No one seems to really care, especially when I tell them I’m watching my kiddo dance.
This year, no way I’m risking bringing covid home to my toddler.
This excuse is so wholesome😂💛
I RSVP'd no to mine because we had a prior commitment. I don't think I would have gone even if I was free though. Then the party got canceled anyway because of rise in COVID cases....
In person or virtual? And how big is the firm?
I’d probably make an appearance if you can, but I don’t think it’s the kiss of death by any means. I’ve skipped holiday parties but it was a big firm so nobody noticed.
Ours just got cancelled cause of COVID
I passed on mine this year. Zero regrets.
Firm party is 2 hours away, going to have to pass, did two other firm events this year, Firm very understanding.
My firm (Amlaw 100-150) had a holiday party - I didn’t go and got some micro aggressions as I lateraled in 2020. Just heard one of the attendees tested positive 7 days after the party 😂🤷🏻♂️. So not conclusive that there any transmission but highlights the risk.
