Is it a common practice to double deploy consultants ? I.e., bill them 8 hours to client 1 and 2-3 hours at client 2? And do you do that with/without clients knowledge and consent?

How do you think they make money by running associates to the ground?

like

As a former consultant, 100% yes. Sometimes, it would be to deliver on a smaller contract where billable hours were mostly used up and deliverables weren’t ready, the bigger clients would be billed and not notice the hour differences.

Personally, it makes me lose respect for the partners and sr managers that advocated for this, as they’ve sold more work than they can reliably deliver on.

like

Smelled you have client 1 paying for a full time body, regardless of workload so you have to track those 8. Then you add on what you actually did.

like

How does “sometimes” get autocorrected to “Smelled”??

It happened at Deloitte. Not claiming it was a standard practice, but I was deployed that way and know others who were as well.

Yes. It makes it less of an issue when you have a slow week at the main client and aren't getting the expected 40 hours. Also good for project continuity if/when resources roll off.
The contracts all state a number of bodies/hours to accomplish the work. Not who they are or that they are dedicated to a client. Key personnel named in the proposal are a little different as SMEs but even they aren't only allowed to work on one contract at a time.

It’s common, but thankfully never experienced it personally. I’ve been pulled into client pursuits in addition to a project assignment. I was tied to my engagements by name not just role. Delivery or strategy work alike.

think of you as a buffett and customers want to eat, some partners want to grab as much cash while others not so much. you don't owe an explanation to the client other than you need to get your project across the line

It is common. But he should at least get paid for the 2-3 hours. It must be with the client's knowledge of course.

Hi all, I feel i am not getting the best experience at an SC level and wanted to see if it is the norm or an anomaly. I am new to consulting and usually feel that’s the reason but I am starting to question my team’s methods because I don’t think I am developing much. My team includes 1 of each - Sc ( me) , manager and Director. I am not included in client meetings and rather get a recording to watch later to bring out insights and get those feedback incorporated. There is0 client connect for me

UK Corporate lawyer here. In my appraisal I was told I am not performing to 3PQE.
I joined from a client, following in-house training. I then moved at the beginning of the pandemic and my offer was pushed 6 months (where I wasn’t working). I then joined on the condition that I did real estate for 6 months.
I have also spent 4 months on parental leave, so I have only spent 16 months in the team. I am paid the same as an NQ. This all feels very unfair. Please share any advice you may have.

Hi, I just got an offer for a rotational program post grad. For the most part, I will be working at the city where my family and SO is at but they mentioned that I’ll have to relocate for 6 months to another location. Honestly, I don’t really want to do that, I would’ve been fine if it were frequent visits (rather than moving). Any thoughts or advice on how I should negotiate this? Or should I just accept the offer and negotiate this later when they finally ask me to relocate?
