Is it acceptable to take about 2-3 months off to learn python/sql/other technical skills to break into data science? Or is there a better approach? Not really looking forward to studying at 11 pm after work...

Why not? People take breaks to do all types of things. I would just caution against entering data science. It’s already full of people who can execute. I would rather invest the time in coming up with a business plan that leverages DS to build a product or service.

like

Yeah what I’m trying to say is why do you want to try to be a half baked at best technical resource and try to learn DS when literally 1000s of people around the globe are doing the same thing? You as a consultant can easily understand what DS can do for you and think about ways to use it to build a product or service . Will help you make your own company in the future..

You make the rules my guy

100%. You’re taking time to invest in yourself. Go for it!

Well Data Science is a hot field that a lot of people are trying to get into these days. As such, it might be a bit competitive to break into it. There’s a risk that it might take you a while to secure a position and you have to ask yourself if you’re willing to take that risk. I don’t have a whole lot of insight but from what i’ve seen maybe showcasing an actual project, whether personal or at work is the best way to demonstrate your skills.

I would say learn how to make apps that leverage ML pipelines, and learn the basics of the popular ML models.

In my experience, most of the online education covers only 10 to 15% of what you would use an industry majority of work is not the language itself but in its implementation and in the thinking process which you can only learn on the job. I’ll give you a better solution, talk to your manager asking for stuff you wanna project 10% of your time in which will work on your desired area. Within a year you will become an expert on both On both languages. It’s really not a big deal

What you just described there is a bootcamp. Assuming you do nothing but learning for the 2-3 months.

Hi fishes! I’m told Deloitte will send me an offer for a Specialist Director role.

I found some here discussions about the specialist path, and it does make sense with my niche technical skills.

What I did not found is info about a “Specialist Director” level. Would any of you have information about that one? 🧐

If that give context, I’m currently a Principal Director (CL.5) at Accenture (Aka Associate Director, one level below MD).

I’m a junior attorney, and my goal is to work in-house for a professional sports team (preferably an NBA, MLB or NFL team) or a record label, but of course these positions are highly-coveted. I started down the traditional path of working in biglaw (NYC) to receive the necessary training and experience while also trying to build relationships. However, biglaw really isn’t for me, and I’m exploring regional firms in Boston. Is it still possible to break into the sports/ent. industry? Any advice?

As a job seeker, what would be the benefits of taking a 12 month contract with no "contract-to-hire" statement in the listing over a salary or contract-to-hire position? I'm currently questioning if I should look for other opportunities, but potentially giving up my 401k, health insurance, and other benefits is nerve-racking, especially as a head of a household of four. Would it be beneficial to start a LLC or something if I were to go this route? I've only held salary positions in tech.
