My odds of asking are inversely correlated to how much I want the job for what it actually is. If I have any doubts in the beginning, I ask and it can save both of us a lot of time.
That’s my thinking too. Why waste both of our time if I know I would only consider the role if there’s a reasonable base pay and promotional track? Role is interesting. More WLB. But I think I’m over qualified and comp does look to be lower than my current comp.
Is it an internal or external recruiter? If it’s external, I’d feel comfortable broaching the subject tactfully, internal less so
Just took a new gig. When going through process, I talked to two internal recruiters and both asked my salary expectations “I said need to come in above $X, is that doable?”. It honestly will save everyone a lot of time if you get it out of the way and they should be able to answer or say if it’s within range.
I always ask. Never matted.
