Is it appropriate to ask about benefits in an interview? E.g., maternity/paternity, WFH policy, etc.

Yes, but only toward the end. I would ask about this stuff after they’ve decided they want you. These aren’t good questions early on or in the middle of the process.

I generally save these for the end when you’re discussing total comp and benefits, unless WFH is a must have for you then you should clarify that up front.

Ask the recruiter

Personally I would ask about WFH. But for leaves and other benefits, I'd connect with the recruiter instead of the interviewer. Plus, a summary of those benefits should be sent to you as part of the offer letter package to review

Yes

Ask the recruiter not the people you’re interviewing with. You can ask the interviewers why they like EY and stay. If they say the benefits then, you can ask but be very careful in making it too much about benefits with the interviewers

I’m in an industry where many people get certifications but I don’t have any. I have a strong resume and some great experience but not having these certifications are hurting me right now. And being currently unemployed can’t afford them on my own. Is there a way to communicate my wish to get many certs in my first year of employment?

Does one just blurt it out during each interview round or is there a savvy way to create a section mentioning it on your resume?

Thoughts on using 401k to pay for down payment / closing costs on a house? I know it’s normally a huge no-no, but it’d take me 2 years to save enough cash in my market, and I plan to house hack so I’d be able to pay myself back in 1/4 the time it’d take without using it and allow me to start my FI journey way quicker (but terrifying to think of actually doing it). I do have a cash emergency fund. Pros and cons, and anyone who has done this. Thanks!!

For maternity leave (specific to EY but feel free to answer for other firms) - if you take the two weeks before your due date and your baby arrives after your due date, does your leave start on your due date (despite no birth yet) or are you supposed to return to work until baby arrives? How does that work?

Hi guys,
I have completed MBA last year. Last year because of COVID, I and my family were severely affected because of which I didn't join the job.
This year, in January, I got an offer letter from a startup of nearly 13.5lpa but i didn't join it because they were asking to do a 15-16hour shift on daily basis. Now I'm looking for a job.
So while negotiating, can i use that offer letter? And how? Because companies will get to know that that offer is of Jan 2022.

Maybe this is a weird one/I'm over analyzing but here goes:

I got back from NAPABA this week and have felt super inspired and motivated. One of the mid levels in my group (straight white guy) noticed I was in a good mood, even though I've been pulling crazy hours since I got back (we're on a bunch of the same deals). Basically he said "can you share some of that motivation w me? I need some" to which I sort of stumbled over a reply that danced around the fact that I mainly feel good bc NAPABA..

Hi everyone!
I'd like some opinions on this job offer I got.

I currently work at Deloitte ( Risk Consultant) and my gross annual salary is 21k. We didn't receive the expected 10% increase in the salary because of the covid situation.

I just got a offer from a small bank for a risk analyst position and with a 28k salary.

( The tax in my country is 30%)

Do you think it's worth me staying at Deloitte since it's a Big4 or jump into the client, which is a rather unknown bank?
