Is it bad to ask someone you are close with at work how much there salary is? Me and a colleague recently started a new position few months ago, same title. I’m sure we make the same, but curious to confirm. We talk about non work related stuff often and money.

pull the trigger, I’m sure you’re both thinking it. Just explain why you’re asking.

Think about what will you do with that information? Say for instance you find out that one of you is making more than the other, can you do anything? Nah. My opinion is leave things the way they are and avoid some heartburn. You'll live a little longer.

Interesting POV, very true.

It would be appropriate for me to say how much I make first right?

like

Yes, lead with that, that way they are more comfortable. You disclose then they might

If you’re close I would go for it. But the fact that you’re hesitating indicates that you are not as close as you think otherwise it’s a no brained who cares thing for me. I’ve had times where I asked for tips too cause sometimes the salary is dependent on negotiation at various stages including promos, half year mark, annual review, etc things I wouldn’t have known or had help if I had not asked.

like

Go for it. Transparency helps. A colleague of mine and I meet regularly to compare numbers and this has helped benchmark what we are making both within the company and in our industry.

like

It's not bad, and if anything is probably good to have transparency. That being said if one of you makes more than the other it could cause some awkwardness.

We are in the same position, but he’s got like 3 years of experience on me. And our job is relatively entry level

He’s jokingly ball parked a figure he’s making, and for jokingly it wasn’t significantly higher then what I actually make. That’s why I’m assuming we make the same. My only hesitation of me not asking is how he’d feel if we’re making the same granted his experience on me, but I don’t think he’d take it hardly

I finally asked.
Colleague makes a little more granted the experience he has. Was a comfortable talk though

Should I specialize in Blockchain or AI? I’m a freshman in a CS degree and I can’t decide. My main argument to choose blockchain is the easy entry with little experience and high salary, I plan on growing my skills during the bear market and get a job once the market recovers. Regarding AI, I find this field fascinating but I feel like it requires a lot of experience, degrees and diplomas.

DO YOU JUST ASSUME THE COST OF YOUR MARKETING ACTIVITIES? I am looking to allocate their cost in the marketing budget in a way that won't rely on several layers of assumptions. How do you reliably estimate the cost of different marketing activities (email, social, web, etc) when you don't have specific people or tools allocated to each function and costs are spread across many channels? Ads seems the easiest, but even then there's time and overheads... I've been looking for a reliable model.

Our school uses Foss Kits for Science and I was told when students return, we will need to sanitize all items before and after each use. This doesn’t seem possible in a middle school setting where each period has a 4 minute break and 25 students in each period. What do you do in your classroom to minimize the amount of work needed to clean and sanitize items. I don’t want to short change the students’ hands-on experiences.
