No such thing as blacklisted. There's never a good time to leave, but you need to look out for yourself here. If you fee this is what's best for you then make the move. Can't worry about what's best for the firm. Let the firm worry about that. You're not a partner.
Yup^ inconvenient yes, irreplaceable no; I need to remember that myself... not that important to the firm otherwise they'd pay me more
Anyone that would blacklist you for attempting to do what's best for yourself and further your career isn't a good business person and won't have success long term. The smart people at the firm understand the situation and while they may be unhappy in the moment, would never blacklist you (as if there was some secret blacklist that existed amongst accounting firms). Do what you feel is best for your life and good luck!
I announced I quit from an old firm next day after senior manager announced he was leaving.....we were the only ones who knew anything about the client.
^thats because partners are smart. They want to keep good connections with smart Alumni. They know that the job will still get done. One thing though, you absolutely can and will be replaced. Now the new person may not be as good and may have a learning curve, but the job will still get done. Nobody in public is irreplaceable.
There's never a right tiiime to-say-goodbye 🎷
Yeah right after you give notice someone else will be getting told about a "great opportunity" and follow up by doing their and your work for their lower salary.
Just watch out if you live in a small market! Accounting folks are a tight knit group and while it may not bite you in the ass now, there's a chance that screwing your team over right before busy season starts will catch up to you (like a former PwC coworker is friends with a controller at a company where you want a job). Not saying you shouldn't bounce, but think twice about it before just pulling the plug without talking to coaches or partners about how miserable you are
Partners also know that if you go on to be successful somewhere, they want you to have fond memories of thefirm. Never know if you'll be in a position for them to sell work to your new company.
The firm will fire you whenever they feel like it. Do what's best for you and your life not for the firm
I bolted right as my manager went on maternity leave. Probably blacklisted but idgaf
The only reason you should be worried is if you plan on going back. Otherwise, who cares?
Doesn't matter if u already have a job
^ Unless u plan on coming back - don't give a f.
^ happens all the time. Been on a few clients that no one was a recur.
Ya the firms wouldn't be in business if shit hit the fan every time a team member left. They deal with this shit so often they don't even blink an eye. Clients don't want to change auditors. Too much of a hassle. Much easier to bring a new team member up to speed.
If partners like you enough, then you're fine. I left my team right before busy season knowing I couldn't and wouldn't be replaced. Every partner said I always had a place if I wanted to come back.
