This is not bad at all. You’re human. Explain what happened in a direct and transparent way and humbly ask if they’d be willing to re-engage. The worst they will say is no, and that will just get you back to where you already are now. But if they say yes then you’re in a better place. Go for it!
Thank you for the encouragement! 💙
From a candidate perspective, every time I get rejected I still hoped that they would change their mind (never happened 🥲) personally if a recruiter withdrew a rejection I would think twice about if I should continue.
Thank you I try my best! 🥺 I’m lucky my company has been really good about distributing out my workload and allowing me the opportunity to provide quality care to my candidates. I know some recruiters work with high req loads which makes it harder (been there also!)
Why would it be bad? Just offer the opportunity and continue with the hiring process
I say go for it! Be transparent about it. It is more than OK to say exactly what you shared. Also, the reaction from the candidate will be very telling. If they respond gracefully whether or not they want to move forward, then great. If they respond poorly, that was not the candidate you wanted anyway.
I’ve conducted reach outs and relayed rejections whenever I had the opportunity, especially with passive candidates. Candidates were always grateful I gave them closure.
