Is it better to apply to biglaw directly or use a recruiter? BCG keeps sending me emails and says someone is working on my behalf applying to firms but I’ve not spoken with that person about my goals/experience etc. 15+ year attorney looking to change field of practice from criminal defense/family law to civil lit defense/insurance defense.

BCG is a scam. But real recruiters are great.

like

Do not use BCG and you should know _specifically_ which firms and roles a recruiter is submitting you to.

15 years is quite senior for biglaw. Do you have a book?

Go through a reputable firm, not BCG, or apply using law school alumni connections from the same school.

like

No book - but changing practice areas so 15 years is a lot but not in new subject matter….

Never send your resume to BCG, quite frankly several of the big national agencies. I can’t tell you how many unauthorized submissions my candidates have encountered. Take the time to vet a recruiter!!

Question: I am on an AE Hiring process. the HR said the salary range is 60k to 70k plus commissions and bonus. I told them, I am looking for 80k, considering my current salary and experience. So far I already had 3 interviews, things are doing well, only one more. Do you think usually companies can go high than the salary range, even though they told me the salary was less than I am expecting?

Hi Fishes,

I have a random question. Does anyone know why PWC AC Kolkata and Banglore are separate entity?
Also, both have there separate offices located in Banglore!
Also, do they have separate practices like Oracle/Sap/Salesforce, etc for Banglore vs Kolkata?

Is it not something like competition against each other rather than keeping things under the same big umbrella?

I am new to Pwc Ac and this question came across my mind and i was shy to ask to my team mates. 😋

How bad does it look to future employers for an experienced attorney (15+ years) who is pivoting into a different practice area and looking to lateral after only having been at their current/first job for 4-5 months in the new practice area? I've been told by a recruiter that it's not a deal breaker because of my experience level. But many colleagues have suggested I remain where I'm at (miserable and unappreciated - just took a $20k pay cut) for at least a year.

Is the hiring slowdown over? I contacted a few firms to inquire about lateral opportunities in late June/early July and was asked to check back in the fall due to hiring freezes. I wonder if I should reach back out or if it's too soon. The news about Skadden's staff layoffs this morning makes me think it's too soon.

Been working at a startup law firm doing transactional work and recently the partner of another firm doing private defense litigation has attempted to scalp me with a base pay well above my current. Here is my issue. I left my firm this summer for an opportunity I should have known was to good to be true. I realized it wasn’t what I was led to believe. Was able to return to my old firm. The return was “a favor”. But includes conditions. I am not happy, and need a change and honestly more money now rather than in 6-8 months. I knew it would be ruff when I went back but I didn’t expect it to be this ruff. Is my recent history gonna be a huge hurdle to even get an interview?

Does it mean anything specifically when a company/firm reposts their position? I went on a phone screen and it went really well (so I thought) and got the interview with a AmLaw200 firm. I thought the interview went okay but then 8 days later no contact and I saw that they reposted the position. I’ve had my position for almost 8 months and I’m ready to leave but that’s another story.
