This is a great question. So, the statement "I don't see color" or "I'm colorblind" is, in my mind, a microaggression because you're choosing to ignore a person's race, and by extension how their race will inform the way they view the world. Only white people can even say "I don't see race" because as a black woman, I don't have that luxury. I am proud of being black, it's an important part of who I am. I'm always offended when people say they don't see race because I view that as erasure of an important part of myself. Racism doesn't happen because different races exist, racism happens when one groups decides to treat another group differently based on race. So I would say, treat everyone the same but also don't shy away from a conversation where someone acknowledges their race and their experience. Nothing worse than a tone deaf white person blabbering on about how we're all the same on the inside when a poc is talking about their experience of discrimination.
Who let trump get on fish bowl?
What kinda stupid post is this
I hate dignifying your question with a response but here goes. Interact with people on a personal, individual level (aka treat people like the unique humans they are!!) Don't make generalizations about a group of people based on race or anything else. Treat all people with respect and dignity and fairness.
What do you mean "treat". Just fucking be nice, listen, work hard, inspire, challenge, work together. How you "treat" is nonsense. Shouldn't even come Into play. Be a fucking good human being, and everything falls out of that....
Wait. You're talking about how you "treat" people that you work with, based on the color of their skin. Why should that fucking matter. Grow up. Be a fucking adult.
Yes, totally. You get it.
I feel like this person is trolling us because it's sure to create a heated response. Or maybe I'm giving more credit to the intelligence of people (but not the decency).
Yes but beyond respect some people have more privilege than others (race, gender, sexuality) and we shouldn’t disregard that.
Stop misusing the word race
I don't even know what race am I. I'm considered white in my country but here i'm hispanic.
Treating people differently based on the color of their skin is called discrimination.
🤦🏽♂️
Here’s the rule of thumb I always use: Just pretend everyone, including yourself, is Samoan and act accordingly.
Colle. Yes!
@SS1 - so you agree?
@LB1 - so you’re saying be “Color-blind”? Interesting.
this is a ridiculous question. how do you intend on treating people of different backgrounds differently? just be a normal person and treat them w respect.
^ yeah, It's called racism to be exact (a type of discrimination)
