Trying to make an argument for increase in headcount and looking for data. What's the size of your legal department? I'm finding data via ACC, CLOC, etc but most of it is for larger companies. For example, CLOC notes an average of 15 lawyers for "small" companies, defined as <$1B in revenues.

Looking for insight on size of legal departments for companies that are in the $100M to $250M revenue range. Industry is technology / energy but interested in data from other verticals as well.

Does anyone else feel like the tragedy of this past year is that our profession went from a passion to just another job? And you are questioning more than ever if the benefits aren’t worth the cost? At some Big 4 companies there is a Partner / Principal group that has equity and are part owners of the business and an equivalent Managing Director group that does not have equity and are essentially employees.

I received a message on LinkedIn from an internal recruiter at a company that sounded intriguing. Would it be bad form to ask for more information about the role and about comp up front? I wasn’t looking to leave my firm until later next year at the earliest, but the company sounds really interesting. Don’t want to waste a lot of time if the comp isn’t right, though.

How hard would it be to get a job if I quit mine? I’m feeling really burnt out and unhappy with my current environment. I’ve been applying for positions since February and not getting much traction. I’m interested in speaking with a legal recruiter. It appears there are a lot of opportunities out there right now. My resume is robust, but not traditional, as I left a law firm 14 years ago (on good terms) to run a small business. It has been successful, but times (and labor markets) are changing and it is time to consider a pivot in my career path. I am licensed and in good standing in two jurisdictions. Any of you interested in speaking with me?

In discussions to make a lateral move. Is there any way I can negotiate higher pay outside the fixed bands? Higher annual bonus, signing bonus? I assume chances are low but worth trying.
