You don’t ask. If they offer great, if they don’t thats that. You pick someone you trust for a reason

It’s very common, offer to help draft bullet points you’d like them to hit on as a minimum. Everyone I know has edited theirs from their writer before submission.
Is it common? I think so. But it isn’t nor should it be expected.
One of my recommenders has been very open about keeping me updated. Knowing how my other recommender works, they will submit without me ever seeing it although I had an initial call to discuss what they may want to include. I trust them both.
Thanks all. On a related note, should I offer to show him completed letters from my other recommenders? Theirs were really good and I want to make sure his is similar.
Definitely don’t do that, may come across as insulting but take the major themes from them and pretend their your ideas and let him know you think the school would really appreciate learning XYZ about you
No harm in casually offering and seeing if he wants to look at them. Consultants love to ‘leverage’ reference materials
“I have to let my consultant review the recommendation prior to submission”
