If you don’t have to worry about family- I say take it while you can. I think younger folks shouldn’t worry too much about wlb until 30. 1st decade of the adult life, slog your ass off. Unless you have a side hustle don’t worry about lesser hours.

Thank you D2. Helpful feedback

That's a tough choice. Few points to consider - 1. A lot depends on your other commitments. Do you have time sensitive commitments that you do not wish to trade in ? E.g. Spending time with a newborn. 2. The difference that the extra income would make in your life. A extra $140k sounds awesome if you have a $500k student loan, but if you have a hefty bank balance this might only give you marginal return on your (time) investment. 3. Does this new opportunity open up desirable future career options ? Will this role somehow fast-track your transition to a more higher paying role that may be annoying in the short term but favorable in the long term ?

like

Ok. This definitely is not a long term play in that case. Assuming you can come back to your current industry and job in a few years, you can view this as a mild temporary annoyance which enables you to pad up your savings, which is not a bad trade off. I would say take the plunge once you 1. Have mentally prepped for this annoyance, coz when you have a bad day you would need to remember why you are doing it. 2. Have figured out a 80% sure-shot way to come back to your industry and job. You will reach a stage when you need to pull the cord and you dont wanna be stuck in a horrible industry. If you cant figure the above two out, stay where you are. Sometimes, peace of mind is more important than a bigger bank balance.

100k to 160k? Not crazy to turn down 300k to 480k? Crazy

like

Only you can determine if it’s worth it, but it can be worthwhile to take it! Like I state below in another thread, just set healthy and hard boundaries for yourself

Yes crazy, boomerang back after a year if it’s that miserable

like

or leverage the new salary after a year if it’s unbearable

like

If your current role is so great, why did you apply for a new position? I’d explore that idea

like

I declined once a hike from ~320 to 500. In this case I would probably go for it. I felt much better financially going from 200 to 300k. Afterwards, money lost a bit of importance.

like

Shiiiiiiii you are crazyyy baby.

funny

Don’t care about industry. Only value WLB and money.

like

What do you do currently - job title

like

60% is a lot. Go make your bank, and if it really sucks that much, leave.

Even if you worked 3 extra hours a day from a 8hr/day schedule, your hours increase by 38%, so that % increase in salary can still be worth it BUT - if you know going in your WLB is going to suffer, maybe set hard boundaries for yourself (calendar blocking is the easiest way to do so), make sure you regularly schedule for yourself time for gym/personal activities

Get that bread 🍞

What did your current company say when you asked for a counter?

Market is hot now. It won’t be like this forever.

You are crazy. Why do you have to look for exit opportunity if you like your current role. Weird flexxxx but okay you do you. 🤷‍♂️

Did not look for this opp. They reached out to me

like

Not crazy. Would go crazy working long hours doing something I wasn’t interested in. If you spend a lot of your life working the money doesn’t overshadow the dread you face during a large portion of your time.

Can you boomerang? If your single or married with no kids, and you can boomerang back in 24 months, I would say go for it.

Hi ladies, Is the 6 month mark too early to ask for a raise? I have been required to over step my job role in almost every capacity. My bosses boss is contacting my personal phone on this weekend as the main point of contact for crisis comms on social media. I am also helping more senior social media members often. I have received 5 pieces of overwhelmingly positive written feedback from colleagues and these will be reviewed at the end of probation talk. I just don't know how to ask. 😔

Anyone start a new job remotely and have tips to feel more integrated into the team/agency? I left my previous agency of 7 years and am now 3 months into a new gig but feel really disconnected, especially now that work is picking up. Team/agency culture used to be what got me through busy periods but having trouble finding that now. Lots of video calls and 1 on 1s to check in but still siloed in my home office. We all work remote from different states so going into our NY office seems pointless.
