I know a few people who did this. Echoing above that they made the switch as either a junior or mid-level so there didn't seem to be a steep learning curve. Juniors were fresh and mids had a decent grasp on what the role would entail from experience.
The hard part seems like it'd just be the transition itself. If your agency would be open to the idea because that's probably the easiest route. Or try to get a relationship at a production house you've worked with.
Either way, they do seem much happier because everything they work on actually gets to air haha
Best producers are creatives at heart
Very true, but heart not brain 🧠
I knew a creative that did that. She was an art director and went to work for a production company that she had worked with on a project. She was helped by having very caring and supportive teams. And she did it fairly junior. Expect a pay cut to begin with. But totally possible.
They’re very different skill sets. But I too would love to go on a lot productions.
Ive never seen that, but you could be a trailblazer—it’s just famously two very different types of brains. Creatives have a hard time being as organized as you need to be for producing (lord knows Id get fired on my third day), but if its interesting to you, hey, be the first Creative on top of shit, way to go 😃
