Is it difficult to transition into CDD/M&A work at the manager level? Previous experience is in restructuring.

I would stay in restructuring now😂

Actually PE and strategics scooping up start ups at a discount.

Yes it’s hard to lead projects with several work streams you’ve never done before. Not impossible but this is why most companies downlevel to post-mba when coming in. Reduces the chance of failure

like

Ya VP1 is being nice they would have to be actually dumb to put you in a position that likely to fail, and any reputable firm that does this work is not dumb. Why are you not ok coming in as a senior? CDD pays pretty well, I do analytics support on M&A engagements so I’ve contributed to CDD and FDD reports and know the pay bands, expectations etc for this kind of work.

like

I’m not FDD i provide support to FDD, CDDs and Value Creation but my comp percentile is compared to FDD, I’m in SAT. Also top performance reviews

It's not easy but then nothing is. I started at EY 10 years ago in Transfer Pricing (Tax) then transitioned into financial advisory (some forensics, data analytics) then into ODD y finally into CDD at KPMG Strategy (as a Director), and yes comp is comparable to being a Principal at MBB as another post mentioned. If that's what you want, plan for it and do it!

condescension is mediocrity...

Annual bonus at KPMG Strategy ranges from 0 to ~35%, on a no promo year

Thank you all for the feedback! I wanted to weigh my options and get insights from those already in that space. I am currently at a t2 in rx so will look for internal options, or consider moving elsewhere and starting over at the post MBA level.

like

Yes, it’s not feasible if you want to go into MBB or t2 m&a. They won’t recruit you into an EM role. However the pay for a MBB consultant/senior consultant in t2 will probably also look more like a Senior Manager in B4. It really depends where you’re aiming to get in and is coming from. Restructuring is part of EYP though. If you get in there with similar title a lateral switch could be possible.

For sure. It’s also possible they will bump you 1 level down regardless, due to pay and ‘brand’. However many teams outside US might see a fit for a restructuring profile for their value creation m&a work (within TSE as well) etc. or if it’s a team that wants to get restructuring going but can’t find people etc. either way no way you’re landing straight into EM as your original question, but there is a viable path.

I need some career advice. I finished my master's degree in international law (B.A.Sc international relations) but I am not sure where to go from here. I always wanted to join a big firm and I've applied to different vacancies in international firms/companies but got rejected from all of them.
Does anyone have any tips on certain job positions or companies where an LLM would prove to be useful with my background?

How feasible is it for me to apply to a PM role with less than a year of experience?

I am a M2 at B4 FDD and don’t know how long i’ll be genuinely interested in this work. Currently debating rotating into a B4 IB associate role for a year or two, then moving to PE. Is this a reasonable move? I know IB lifestyle will suck, but I don’t want to find myself in a spot where I dislike what I do in a few years and feel like moving to IB may increase my chances of landing a better gig in the future ( as opposed to sticking to FDD)

Is it possible to move into industry or tech roles as an exit from PE (2.5 YOE MBB, 2 YOE PE associate)? I'm really looking for better WLB, even if that means a bit of a pay cut

I like DD work more than the boring project/IMO/SMO work but cannot put up with working weekends given the salary (I came from IB where you are actually paid for this time).

Open to thoughts - what other consulting firms or groups have interesting work and higher pay, but keep weekends free? Is it worth it to stay if I am a strong performer on DDs? MBA?

Hi All,
Really need some input. We have our new construction done by April 2023. Builder is giving us 28,000 credits which can be used towards closing cost and buy lock rate for 6 months from now and giving us the interest rate for 6.75% for 30 years from US bank. But I also spoke to credit union they give us 5 ARM for 5.5% but can lock rate in feb 2023. So should go with the US bank with 6.75% plus incentives or wait till feb 2023 and thn lock rates(us bank doesn’t give us ARM rates).

Hi all,

Need some advice on my next career move. I'm 31, have an MBA and am currently a SC in Risk Advisory with no M&A experience. I am good at risk consulting work but don't find it very challenging or interesting. That said, I expect to get promoted to M next year.

Recently, I interviewed with another Big 4 firm for SC in CDD M&A team and have got an offer. I enjoyed doing the CDD case study, and I believe I'd do well in the role.
