Worth it- How poor is the fit?
Difficult- any tailor should be able to do that
It’s a pretty standard alteration. And well worth it. You don’t want a full cuff sticking out of your jacket sleeve. You’ll look like you’re wearing your dads shirt, and almost never show off that watch you bought yourself.
Since the simplest answer is to buy something that already fits. I’d recommend buying from a brand that offers exact sleeve options vs S/M/L (like J Crew, Banana Republic, Uniqlo, etc.)
If you need sleeve length <32”, both Charles Tyrwhitt and TM Lewin offer to make the alterations for $14-15 before they ship the product, which is about what you would pay a local tailor, but with less time and effort. This can also be an appealing option for guys who want exactly 34.5” vs 34 or 35.
If you’d like to find your best-fitting options in less than 60 seconds across 17 different brands, I’d love to get your feedback on my.wardrobeessentialist.com
Easier to get it shortened than lengthened. 😂
A ton of my shirts' arms are too short, so I always have my sleeves rolled up.
Just left tailor to do the exact same thing. Make sure the tailor moves the vent up the sleeve if he's going to shorten the sleeve. You don't want to lose any of the vent... Unless you do.
I’ve tried to do that a few times. The overall price of purchase + change > custom fitted shirt. I have lanky ass arms (16 neck, 40 chest, 30 waist, 36 in arm). Just go custom
Makes shirts weird looking. I prefer to tailor my shirts. Also, I'm short, so I'm talking with respect to shortening sleeves.
