Here I am being told my by PML that my chance of getting it after 2 is super low because people are going to expect me to have more experience, even if all my reviews say I’m ready and I hit all IBO’s/metrics 🤷
This is the part where someone says anywhere not KPMG is an upgrade
First question - are you an experienced hire? I made manager after one year at senior but I had 6 before the firm. It’s not at all unheard of for two years, more typically 3, but the only times I’ve seen it happen with just one year is if you had come in “ready” to begin with, just maybe without as much consulting experience etc.
I doubt it haha I don’t have anyone from asset management! But maybe I know your PML :)
Yes because KPMG promotes relates fast
I think it's a bit uncommon honestly. All the calls are being done in July so you could get a sense from your PML. Your second year is much more doable.
That’s the sense I’ve gotten
Rising Star
No.
😂 where did you find this meme, old people on social media kill me
No, two years isn’t uncommon, but is the earliest I’ve personally seen. Been with the firm 9 years.
My opinion, yes.
I’ve seen SA1 to M before. Not common but I’ve seen it.
No - they released an email saying no new first year SA’s will be promoted. You can always jump to another firm to get the promotion though and boomerang back…
Just an FYI even if you get promoted to a manager on another firm, if the qualities kpmg is looking for in a manager is not met, they will still offer you an Sr. Associate title.
Are you leading / managing people at your current position? In addition to that if your AERT reviews show that you are performing as a manager then yes you can get promoted.
Thank you all for the input. Seems Manager at 1 year is unlikely but has happened. Now just wondering what the typical raise is if I don’t get manager. Should I just take a job offer that I have now for 15-25k increase vs hope for a 20% increase
Doubtful you’ll get a 20% increase. Since you were an experienced hire you’re likely paid more already than your peers with the same level of experience. Unless we had an unbelievable year, or unless the firm concludes you’re paid well below market, you won’t scratch 20% on a non-promotion year that hasn’t been touted as a “record” year for comp (2021 being the exception, where people got higher than normal raises to make up for diminished raise numbers in 2020)
The only case I’ve seen was a direct entry SA with no consulting background but many extra years of relevant industry experience.
