Received Inclined outcome for loop at Amazon, however downgraded from L6 TPM to L5 TPM. I don't as much care about the level, but my TC expectations are around 275-300k. Anyone with experience in this know if they will be able to get to that number for L5 TPM? 11.5 YoE and a Master's Degree.
Thanks in advance!

I did it with one promotion, and not with two. The first one came with a raise way bigger than I was expecting so I wasn’t going to be greedy! The second came in lower than expected and at a time when I was looking to leave, so I figured I had nothing to lose. At that company it was HR who notified me of the promotion (I knew from my boss that it was coming) so I negotiated through them. The last promotion was an insultingly tiny raise, but I was in final interviews with three companies at the time and knew I would be giving notice very soon so it wasn’t worth trying to negotiate.
Thank you for sharing! I feel like this promotion will come with a huge raise as well (my manager confirmed it). I also don’t want to be greedy. Haha.
Promotion needs to reflect the market rate of the work you do. If it doesn’t, negotiate. First step is talking to your manager.
You can also negotiate other things besides salary - like bonus potential, vacation days, etc.
Thank you! I always forget I can negotiate certain benefits other than money. I’m always down for more PTO.

Many companies will promote you but lowball your increase to the minimum lowest range possible so definitely best to have a conversation with your manager to set expectations on what you’re expecting based on market rates.
Very true! I feel like this was the case when I got hired for my current position, which was my fault for not doing my due diligence. Thank you!
Agreed. Have the conversation about expectations before accepting the new position. It is good for you, but they aren’t offering out of kindness. Talk to your manager. Budgets get set well in advance so giving your manager an idea of what you want will help them either advocate for you or give you a range the business will go for.
Thank you! It’s been a rolling conversation for a month or so. I do know it’s “more than average” for the promotion, as well as this incentive the company is doing to offset inflation. That’s a whole other story/theory I have about it and how it relates to this promotion. 😅
Update: the promotion was finalized. However, it puts me in the same range as those with way less YOE. I asked if there was room for negotiation and was shut down quickly with a promise that I’d get a high raise next cycle. This pay range is still well below the national average and they don’t pay based on COLiving… rather COLabor.
