Moving to LA for a new job! Office in Thousand Oaks. The employees I met live in Westside and drive to work. I’m wondering if it’d be better if I moved to Sherman Oaks (~8 miles closer). Thoughts?
Question for for all those in Management Consulting.
How do I become better at strategic thinking ? What else can I be doing ?
Here's what I have been doing
1. Reading books - the usual ones that come up on Google search
2. Reading past annual reports/investor reports to see how strategy played out
Any AS roles open in NY? Please let me know 🙏🏻.

How do married couples handle long commute? We work in different cities about two hours apart by car. Although he offered to deal with the long commute, I think it’s definitely difficult to handle. In the short term, we’re not thinking about finding new job. Now we are considering marriage, any tips on housing or potential issues that may arise?

Do any law firms have mandatory retirement ages?
I started a new job 4 months ago and I hate it. I can’t imagine continuing to do this job for longer than a few more months. I know the general wisdom is to stay for a year…but with the job market cooling and a recession looming, I’m wondering if I need to start actively looking for something else asap. Thoughts?
What do you do to keep track of your tasks? Any software you use? I used to use Excel but got away from that.
As an associate, if you connect a partner to a contact for marketing purposes, and then that partner later gets a referral because of your connection, are you entitled to any sort of credit? Feel like as an associate I help bring in cases but I’m never actually given any credit for it. Is it wrong for me to think that way?
Do you have to invite people from your office to your wedding? I work at a very small office with out 12 people total, including staff. The other associate here invited everyone in the office, and their significant others to her wedding. That's a lot of extra money I wasn't intending to spend for people I'm not particularly close to. Anyone else been in a similar situation?
I’ve surpassed my billable target by 200 hours already and I am one of the highest billers (firm is transparent with associate hours). Ive been saying no to all new work—currently staffed on 5 active deals. Two of my deals just went pencils down and the other 3 just signed/filed so I’ll have several quiet weeks before mid December. Am I justified in continuing to say no despite likely billing less than 10 hrs a week or should I take on more work to fill my next several weeks?
Can any plaintiff side securities litigation associates speak to typical base and total comp? I understand it can vary quite a bit by year but would appreciate a general range.
Is it a wise career decision to go from a national firm to a local but strong firm? Practiced with the national firm for a year and a half. The firms are the same type of law, but the smaller firm has less billable requirements and is offering higher salary/better bonus structure as well as more independence such as ability to completely run own case load.
Interviewed to the final round at a buzzy tech startup. Multiple rounds of interviews, hours and hours spent appearing, preparing, etc. and rather than receive the rejection or offer I should have received by the end of the week as promised I get a “candidate experience survey” email at 3am todayfrom an @noreply email. Wtf is wrong with some people? Do startups low key treat people like fungible robots like law firms? I’m starting to respect big companies that have the courtesy to say “denied.”

Would you take a pay cut from biglaw market salary—working as a generalist in a secondary market—to move to NYC to work at an AmLaw 200 firm for a $215,000 salary where “the vast majority but not all” of your work would be in your desired niche practice area? This is for a mid-level associate. Originally led to believe it would have been 100% doing the desired niche practice area; post-offer it’s now “the vast majority.”
In house counsel, can you share your perspective on any “loneliness” in your job compared to firm life where you may have had the camaraderie with fellow associates/staff? I’m wondering if you feel like you’re on an island (if you have a small legal team).
Is anyone not yet seeing any downtick in hours or inflow of work due to the Coronavirus? I’m beginning to think my situation is an anomaly, though granted we’re still in the front end of this thing.
How have you known that a firm planned on bringing you in? What were some of the signs you noticed in your interviews? Also, how quickly did you hear back? What was the size of the firm?
First-year looking to make a move from NY biglaw (general corp) - any tips on process? And am I giving in too early? Grateful for the experience but don’t think biglaw is for me. Want to continue to build skills but willing to give up prestige/biglaw $$ for a semblance of a life.
Working for a small PI firm (5 attorneys) in a satellite office trying to generate more revenue. The office has been here for a decade but never really made use of advertising. I’m attending as many networking events as I can and have joined several networking groups. Any advice for more exposure without becoming a billboard attorney?
I returned to work a few months ago, and noticed my insurance benefits still have not been reinstated. I tried contacting the person in charge, still no response from her 1.5 months and 2 emails later…. I even got my boss to email her and nothing. Do I email HR about this? This has been extremely frustrating for me since I’ve been delaying scheduling doctors appointments because of this.
