Good references do not want to be rewarded beyond the reward of helping you potentially get hired. As another commenter suggested, a profuse thank you and coffee or drinks is always welcome.
No gift cards for this. If able, I’d buy them a coffee or send a a nice note of thanks electronically or handwritten - whatever feels most authentic to you.
Gift nothing of monetary value. So as people mentioned a drink, a coffee, flowers, possibly food like a gift basket and at the most a bottle of wine.
All these things cost money and with wine you could technically resell it, but it’s usually something that can’t be transferred into cash.
Send them a handwritten thank you note or connect to see if they’d like to grab coffee to catch up.
I did flowers 💐
Heartfelt verbal appreciation and, if possible, getting together to catch up over a coffee to keep the connection would be my suggestion. If they are not local to you, a FaceTime call to chat works as well!
