Is it inappropriate to encourage employees to join or form an ERG? We have an African American employee resource group and I'd love to recommend two associates I'm mentoring join it, but it feels weird to make assumptions about their heritage or about their interest in a diversity group. As a leader, I try to use what power and influence I have to make change. Yesterday, on a holding co leadership call when trying to get a Fortune 15 company to meaningfully act. I was faced with 4 white, 50+ y/o men on a zoom screen telling me they were “doing enough.” Ignoring statistics, the research they provided, let alone the moral argument. If I am this exhausted, frustrated, and drained in this moment, I can only imagine this is a sliver of what others feel every day.
