Is it inappropriate to encourage employees to join or form an ERG? We have an African American employee resource group and I'd love to recommend two associates I'm mentoring join it, but it feels weird to make assumptions about their heritage or about their interest in a diversity group. Yay or nay?

I would sell the benefits of the erg network and encourage them to join whichever one they find most interesting or align with them and their goals

As a leader, I try to use what power and influence I have to make change. Yesterday, on a holding co leadership call when trying to get a Fortune 15 company to meaningfully act. I was faced with 4 white, 50+ y/o men on a zoom screen telling me they were “doing enough.” Ignoring statistics, the research they provided, let alone the moral argument. If I am this exhausted, frustrated, and drained in this moment, I can only imagine this is a sliver of what others feel every day.

ME 🐠: serious question after having gone through multiple threads on this forum and elsewhere. Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! My company has ERGs and one of them is pretty large and includes a lot of demographics. Within it, people are starting to kind of form their own subgroups (like based on office location or country-specific ethnicity).
