Is it just me, or has the subway become way more dangerous? Seems like every other day someone is getting pushed or stabbed.

I’ve lived here 15 years and yes. I’m female and I don’t know if men feel things differently but I regularly feel uncomfortable enough now that I switch cars (midday not even like at night). I’ve never felt this way before. I feel like I’m on constant alert for crazy people on the train.

like

More alert bc of these hoodlums. People need to stop defending criminals. Put them in jail and throw away the key. You can’t rehabilitate if they don’t serve time. Been here my whole life

like

Lmao well I don’t have a hard on for the justice system so I still get confused when I encounter people who do

like

Nah I haven’t stabbed anyone on the subway all year. I means it’s only been 9 days, and I haven’t ridden the subway yet this year.

Yeah, I feel like I’ve shifted a bit to the right since moving to the city…

like

Hilarious…

Idk seems pretty common in terms of news and when I take it I don’t feel anymore unsafe

like

I’ve been here over a decade and I haven’t noticed any real difference other than fewer people.

Don’t watch the news. Ignorance is bliss.

like

The other day the girl who was right next to me got tackled and pushed into a chair on the platform by some random crazy dude. I lucked out bc if I had been standing in her spot 2 feet to the right, that would have been me. Its like we are a school of fish, predators are hunting us, but there’s literally 8 million of us. So even if 10k of us have to get killed and stabbed everyday, the chances of it being you is extremely small. So ignorantly bliss is still a viable option.

SE1 really???

Idk, I’m from a much smaller city and I never had street smarts so when I moved here in the pandemic I just decided to drive everywhere and I much prefer it and parking isn’t horrible compared to before and this is never a concern for me.

like

Yea I’ve started driving as well. As much as I hate the traffic sometimes, thinking back to being on a crowded train, this is still much better.

like

I have a low tolerance for this and only take the train during daylight these days, but I’ve felt safe in the 1 train recently (even though I didn’t feel that way spring 2021). Which routes are you taking? Thanks for the heads up - going to be more thoughtful about it now.

Having access to clean and abundant water to shower everyday is a privilege. Growing up in LA, during the drought period, forced many of us (especially those from a low socioeconomic background) to cut down on our showers. Our water bills were $600/mo (and my family was on food stamps at the time, we showered 3x a week). We simply couldn’t afford to shower everyday. Throwing a different perspective out there for all my east coast friends who grew up with access to unlimited, cheap (free) water
