It’s not just you.. but don’t tell this to the Tesla fan boys.
You’re right - Tesla’s interior materials are barely better than your average economy car. They skimp there and put all the money in the tech.
I don’t necessarily have anything against Tesla doing this, and their cars are great for a lot of people. But they are NOT luxury vehicles. Honestly, a new Camry’s interior is probably as nice as a Model 3’s.

Let's see if I can fully trigger the teslarati - I agree my friends with Model S or Model 3 feel underwhelming. I also love that I can fill my Toyota Mirai with hydrogen in 5 minutes and go 300 miles. 🙊🙉🙈

Going on two years with my bae. Best car I’ve ever owned. 10/10. Would buy another one in a heartbeat. Most comfortable seat I’ve ever experienced. The seats are entirely made in house. Read up on them
Yes. Paid cash for car. Experienced the future. Invested in future. Now present millionaire.
Haha my X has abhorrent build quality for the price I paid a few years back; definitely don’t consider a Tesla for build quality. It is possible however for other upsides to make up for this downside.
Not just you. Tesla is about EV tech first and foremost, with build quality and overall quality in distant second and third places.
I want comfort and luxury in my car and have been severely underwhelmed every time I've been in a Tesla. At those price points, I'd expect something nicer than a mid tier Camry.
I love Teslas and I honestly don’t really care for the interior that much. But that’s okay because I want a Tesla for the performance and driving experience. And having an electric car around can be convenient in some cases.
It’s not just you. The Tesla interiors lack the premium fee you would expect for the price you pay.
For now they are so far ahead in EV technology, that they really don’t have to address interior quality. Long term though, they will need to as other EVs i.e Taycan catch up while producing premium interiors at the same time.
Mostly looking at range.
I have a model 3, the QA is HORRENDOUS. But it’s a nice interior but not for the money. There are places that you can tell they cut cash:
- windows aren’t polarized
- it feels like the hard plastics get dinged by any touch
- not that quiet of an interior
- Frunk hood feels very very flimsy
- didn’t come with floor mats (wtf)
All that said - it’s a great car. Drives incredibly well so fast and no gas. It’s not perfect or for everyone, but it’s definitely not all hype.
Even Elon Musk in a recent interview with Sandy Munro admitted that the S seats were bad.
