Southwest is expensive if you don’t plan ahead, but if you book a couple months in advance it can be super cheap. The best value is for their frequent fliers, their point system is ridiculously rewarding. When we traveled I easily earned enough points for a one way every week, plus the companion pass my SO and I could fly anywhere domestically whenever we felt like it.

I’ve found if you book far enough in advanced they have good rates but as you get closer they’re the same or higher than legacy. I really don’t view them as a low cost any more, that’s spirit and frontier now
Spirit and Frontier aren’t that cheap after you add fees for bags and picking your seat.
Not that cheap but they’re good for point redemptions (chase transfers, etc)
Yeah I’m with pwc 1, needed 2 round trip flights that cost ~$550 (44,000 chase points) that I got via chase 1:1 transfer to southwest points for like 12k
It depends on timing and also where you are going.
