I am getting grilled now and it is not pleasant 🙃
"Sorry, didn't realize we were suppose to implement based on what requirements you thought thought system should have and not the signed off requirements from our paying client."
(Don't say this :P)
Yucky situation; but ultimately it is the directors fault if there is something going on, not an associate.

Did they have responsibility to sign off on requirements?
Microsoft1 is 100% right. Just because someone is a director doesn’t mean they should be disorganized and disruptive to their own employees’ work. I realize this is a client service profession, but it’s a pet peeve of mine when executives and client side alike randomly blurt out new requirements and changes without any consideration in regards to workload or schedules
If you stay in consulting, I would get used to this. You have to have audit trail of approval (or their lack of compliance with the approval window) or else they will nitpick and try to add something to it so they can claim they did something
It’s a sloppy way of operating and causes problems down the road
