“People like you?” That statement just rubbed me the wrong way.

Definitely talk to HR. He threatened your position at the company for medical reasons. It might fall under discrimination

I don’t know your firm, but that is expressly against our policy. Talk to HR immediately

Consult an employment attorney first, then submit to HR or through your company’s ethics line. Shame on him.

I think that it came out the wrong way but the message was supportive. He wants you to come back, he wants you to know that you can be promoted, he wants you to know that people want to work with you. The delivery is definitely sub-par but the message is awesome!

likefunny

Yeah, this sounds like what my sponsor would have said in a well-meaning but atrociously delivered way. The message is positive even though this person has a negative EQ. What this means is that you can stop replaying the convo and know that you have support no matter what your next steps are. Also, I hope you enjoy your time off and get some rest & recovery!! Practice putting yourself first and it will make the return to work much easier 😊

Even if that’s what he’s thinking, to express it and add stress to your situation is awful. Take care of yourself first. Jobs come and go but your health is most important.

Thanks for all the support! So grateful I can talk to folks who actually understand how challenging it is to be where we are atm.

Good luck, OP. Nothing new to add here other than - treat your mind and body like a temple. I’m confident you’ll continuing crushing it after you return from STD.

Those of you who have gotten a big promotion, did you feel happier before or after? I took a new role that was a huge pay and responsibility boost compared to my previous job, but tbh I am so miserable and stressed everyday I’m not sure if it was worth it. Feels like the more you move up, the less work/life balance you have.

My mental health is really suffering because of family drama. Primarily, it's the toxic sexism in my culture (Indian)- feels very unfair how my mom and I get treated, especially by the males (and some toxic females) in the family. Any advice on how to navigate the double standards and lack of decency/respect? I do have a therapist but don't feel as supported with this. Just feeling really depressed, so any constructive thoughts/advice is super helpful.

Can you only apply to the Google APMM program if there is a position available at your home country’s office? Or can you apply anywhere? It says there is no visa sponsorship so I assume it’s the former but wanted to check. The program looks great. Fits my credentials and long-term goals. However, I’ve never seen an opening for the position at my home country’s office. Any APMM program members who faced the same issue? How did you overcome this? Happy to chat here or over DM.Google

Is saving over rated? Starting to think my general strategy/approach to savings. I recently posed a question about why people don’t retire earlier after seeing maxing out your tax accounts (~30K with match) gives you ~70k in today’s dollars (not 70k in 2060 dollars). I was a bit hyper obsessed about saving that extra 2-3k a year and saying no to that extra beach trip or mountain weekend or even a round of golf. Now I think I should be saying yes, what do you guys think? Just curious for thisconv

Does anyone have a similar experience? I interviewed with recruiters from two of "Big 4". I wonder why the partners even not bothered to interview me. If it matters, I am a CPA with 3 years non-PA experience and applied for experienced associate positions. I appreciate any insights.
