Is it normal for firms to be ambiguous about titles during interviews? Firm says that specific title will be determined during interviews and may result in a lower title than one originally applied.

Normal. In the sense that Bait & Switch is normal. Recruiters have only one objective - Fill all open positions with people as cheaply as possible. Lowest form of animal life.

What confuses me is that these are supposed to be the major investment banks. Internal recruiter was being ambiguous about compensation and title through she forwarded me the job description. She says everything will all be determined during interviews based on experience Not sure if this is a red flag, recruiter is just bad, or they’re saying this stuff for legal reasons.

This is normal.

With that said, will I seriously run the risk of being handled a lower title? Debating if it’s still worth going through the process

I think during the interviews they will calibrate what is the right level. Not unusual

Focus on making sure the money is right and then the title will come over time. Expectations go way up between Senior and Manager and we generally would prefer that you exceed expectations out of the gate vs. below expectations and then have performance issues

Ey said that when I was interviewing but they gave me the title that I applied for.

I’ve always gotten the advice that when you want to switch jobs you should take interviews from places you’re not actually interested in, so you can understand your value in the market and have better negotiating power. I’m doing that rn - took a couple interviews to gauge my skills, my market value, and see what I need to work on for interviews that I actually care about. However, I feel really guilty about wasting their time and going all the way knowing I’ll just say no at the end. Wwyd?

Business etiquette question: when traveling with your boss is it okay to ride your boss's coattails with regard to airline status. For example, he gets free checked bags so he will check mine with his to get higher unloading priority and to save the company a few shekels. I also use the priority lines with him when we need to go to the airline counter and when we board the plane. I am American & travel mostly to latin American countries (since feelings towards queues might change on culture).
