Is it normal for PPMD to jump around? I feel like I’ve met a few that have spent time as PPMD at different firms or have just recently joined EY from another Big 4/competitor.

I think new PPMD pensions are not as generous as they once were so more of the newer PPMDs jump around for better comp/opportunities.

Remember we are still building out many of our consulting practices, so it is to be expected.

Generally after the initial period people settle in. Eg it would take a lot to get me to move. I do well, have a great team and leadership. It would have to be an unbelievable opportunity for significantly more money to drop everything and rebuild it elsewhere.

EY1 is correct but that’s a new development and I don’t think we are seeing many moves attributed to that just yet; it will start happening in the next 5 years though.

Some Business Intelligence/Analyst roles are very data heavy. I wonder why these roles do not have the term “data” in them, and wonder if it’s to keep the salary lower than it should be. I have colleagues doing intense data science tasks as BI Analysts, and can’t help but feel indignant on their behalf because when hearing their job title, one would underestimate their technical ability.

Hey Everyone!

Next Thursday, 1/27, we'll be having a live text-based Q&A in here all day with Tony Thai, CEO of Hyperdraft, on exiting Big Law.

Any and all questions are welcome regarding leaving Big Law to go in-house or non-traditional, starting your own venture, avoiding burnout, or really anything you want to ask!

A thread will be dropped in the morning, and close at the end of the workday. Tony will be available and popping in all day to answer your questions.

Cheers,

Team Fishbowl

Pretty highly rated consistently and up for director this year. For years been thinking of starting a business (franchise). Pandemic has put a dent in that but still viable option. Gross profit is 350k (median) and a line of business I’d be very interested in. Clearly this is less pay than new parter (but could open more than one eventually) and risk may be higher for failure. What other factors should I consider when evaluating staying to partner or trying my hand as an entrepreneur?
