Is it normal that as a manager I’m working 10-12 hours daily, even though it’s not busy season. It always seems as if there’s another pressing issue, and we’re perpetually understaffed.

I’m contemplating a move to the southeast, specifically Raleigh or Charlotte, and possibly SC. Is it the same down there where I can expect to work those hours at a large firm?

I like the work I do, but I feel like going private would make it easier to spend time with my family.

Just compare the utilization of your peers in NC to your own. If it says they worked 1300 hours and yours says 1600 then you have your answer

I’m with you but it’s sadly not all chargeable. So many initiatives, BD work, admin, management and billing...so start at 7:30 every day and go till...whenever.

Yeah, I literally have one client that I’ve told everyone I won’t even read emails on till after 5pm. Get roughly 70 a day just for this one.

Same

OP, I’m in the exact same boat! Thinking about a move to the southeast and currently having trouble understanding if this is normal. Everyday/week I think this one will be light or manageable. And I can’t stop feeling like I’m failing and falling behind. It’s becoming so difficult to keep going. And the thought of busy season next month... 😢

Same here! I’m currently 10% above my pears and if I add the internal project that is non-charade but included in our utilization for staffing purposes I’m 20% above my peers. I cannot remember last time I had mass than 10-12h a day :(

Manager at a small firm. I only work 10 hour days during busy season, and even that only lasts for a few weeks. Right now I’m “working” for 8 but most of that consists of email reminders to clients about January deadlines or follow-ups regarding SBA programs.

Hi Everyone,

Any other lonely social workers in here? I mean a lot to some of the people on my caseload but that's about it. Don't have any family near me and it's hard to make friends with non-SW's mostly just because I'm too tired after work to want to do much. Do you spend most of your time alone or is your social time self care for you? Just feel like I don't have a support system!

Mine’s the hours, which is not normally my issue. I billed 230 for June and July and am already at 145 for August. I burst into tears this morning when a client changed plans and now wants a major project by end of month, on top of my other deadlines next week... I just want to sleep.

Hi everyone! I’m new here. 217 days sober. I quit on September 11, 2021. I never thought I had an issue until I started lying to my friends and family about my consumption. If anyone is sober curious or even having a hard time with sobriety, something that really helped me is the reframe app. Be kind to yourselves!
