Is it normal to see a 664 line SQL query powering 1 visual on a dashboard

Sadly, not out of the ordinary.

I mean it could go either way - on one hand you can have line break for all attributes and on the other hand some a hole can be dropping tripled nested sub queries

Not super surprising, a lot of it could be due to formatting and commenting, and also just developing many many features on a person level so it would involve multiple CTEs. You’d be less likely to see that on a “transaction level” query and more likely on a “person level” query. Really depends what the whole query’s purpose is.

(I’m speaking as someone who has also developed these kinds of lengthy SQL queries to power both Tableau dashboards and also Looker’s LookML data views.)

Only if built it...cause I jist code shit on top of problems

Does anybody else here work in analytics? If all you know is it takes 664 lines to build the etl to create the view that powers the visual, how can you possibly know anything else about the query’s optimization? And if the visual has a lot of parameter controls?

What do y’all define as ETL? I agree I don’t think a sql query is ETL.

Based on D1's comment, let me say few things.

1. "powering" a visual is consultant speak. That could mean a lot of things.
2. To build a successful and good dashboard, there's need for data engineering.
3. Building a dashboard needs designing a friendly dimensional table that has wrangled, sanitized and prepared data before you drop the first bar chart on the dashboard.
4. Having said all this, one query of 664 line is out of the ordinary and could indicate bad dashboard design, lack of separation between data wrangling and metrics.
5. With all that being said, if out of 664 lines, you got 200 lines with just column names, then may be it's a different issue here.

Also, you say a 664 line query is powering ONE visual on a dashboard and NOT the dashboard entirely. That seems to indicate you have tremendous scope to improve

Hi, My partner applied in Accenture few days back and received an email today, that they have a great opportunity for her and not able to reach out to her. They asked, did she change her number and mentioned to reach out to the recruiter. Now since we had been in a no network zone, she didn't receive any call, therefore there is no number to reach out to her recruiter. Also the email she received is from no-reply email id. Who can we reach out to? Is there a support email id?Accenture
