Do you have any tips for managing up? I’m a midlevel. Often times partners are sitting on the docs before they confirm sign off or provide comments. This is sometimes a problem when clients want to close asap (they send chasers, etc).

How would you suggest dealing with a toxic boss? They gossip and seem to purposely be vague about critical information, likely so they can't be held accountable.

I am 2 years into product as my first job. I have a new manager (former lawyer!?) who micromanages everything I do - including stylistic changes to my user stories. I tried having an open conversation with him and now he starts every call with “I am not telling you what and how to do but do x“. Any advice please? My colleague at work who’s in the junior parallel role / receptionist just drives me crazy. As a Marketing specialist, I oversee our social pages + following on requests from there. Yesterday she said - “Maybe you could also reply to all requests on our general customer email?” I said I don’t know how to prioritise with my main responsibilities - boss and big boss present and stayed silent. Been on a project for 2 weeks and thinking it’s not for me. The manager is kind of rude when I ask for help/direction, but he always says to ask if things are uncertain. He always has this condescending attitude and just keeps telling me that he expects more of someone at my level, C. I just keep feeling anxious that I’m not meeting expectations and feel reluctant to ask for help. Anyone in the same boat?

I thought that too of some of the middle eastern and Caribbean island managers I worked with on a job once, but they turned out to be the most supportive and inquisitive. But I feel ya, sometimes you can sense if they'll be hostile toward you. But I don't give af at this point. In the end, they're still professionals working for Big 4 and probably won't dare say anything to you about it, even if it does bother them. Way I see it, ignorant people like that don't go very far working in our industry.

I recently interviewed for a health research analyst position Ina consulting firm. I found some of the questions objectionable. What threw me off was the interviewer asked me and I will quote them " with your current generation, work life balance is a huge deal. What do you think are the benefits of working?" They also told me they do "overtime".
