It's ok in any stage of the interview process. You don't want to waste their time or yours. You can say something simple like "Do you have a salary range for this position? I want to make sure we are aligned moving forward". They might try to push back and ask you what your expectation is but NEVER say a number first.
I would say yes, because if it's way off base, why waste everyone's time? At least a range or ballpark would be good to know. Curious to see what others say, though.
It’s ok to ask but don’t expect them to give you a direct answer. They will likely try to spin it around and ask you what your expected comp is.
It’s an employee market. Ask for a specific range right away. If they are not clear, ask for clarity.
If they give a wide range, ask for a very narrow range. FB has taught me that salaries are bonkers and you get what you negotiate.
Yep, you gotta work the hours no matter what, might as well ask for the highest comp. Work, taxes and death are guaranteed…
Almost always take up comp discussions with recruiter. Focus your time with hiring manager on questions about the work. Also any awkwardness from comp discussions (let’s face it, most of us are fairly inexperienced at it) won’t carry over if you take the gig, as you’ll never see or hear from the recruiter again.
This makes a lot of sense. For some reason the recruiter responded to my application asking to schedule a meeting with the hiring manager? Not sure what’s up with that but I’d much rather talk to the recruiter about comp.
