Is it ok to discuss which client looks hot during dinner hours?

Obviously, no. The fact that you had to ask means we have a long way to go.

No, take it from me doing something similar in an airport unbeknownst that I was speaking with a higher up at the client who I hadn’t seen in person

Started with a beer, ended with me lying my ass off.

Please don’t do this. I’ve had a senior manager say this about our client in front of me at an internal team dinner. I was the only junior woman on the team. He’s a nice guy and I don’t think he’s a bad person or even abnormal for it, but it made me feel like no matter what I do, my team may see me at times as less than the full, working professional human being I am, reduced to a visual to them. It’s awful to think about your manager evaluating your appearance or anyone else’s in the back of his mind as you’re trying to prove yourself in your career. And because all the other people on your team are men who can “just be cool” and relate to this leader who has power over your career by joining in on a conversation that makes you feel uncomfortable, it disadvantages you as a woman.

Talking about someone’s appearance in the workplace as if you have a right to an evaluation of them by that factor is inappropriate and disrespectful to them and those around you.

like

Also think if you would have this conversation if the dinner table were split among men and women. Probably not. Get the locker room talk out of the workplace

like

M2 Lmao nobody is saying you can’t ever discuss if somebody is attractive, in the appropriate setting.

Locker room talk very clearly is not that and is more along the lines of “She’s got a great ass and I’m totally gonna smash”, “She’s so wound up, I’d nail that right out of her”, etc.

I’m good with the latter finally being considered gross and inappropriate in all settings.

like

U sound lonely af with no interests if u can’t think of anything else to talk about

like

Probably not, but my team is like family and we 100% talk about those things 😆

You’re part of the problem.

Okay, so that’s a no to dinner hours.

What about during happy hours?

I was just pulling your leg, P1, but your last response is brilliant!

I’ve definitely said that a project is a bit easier because the client isn’t hard on the eyes once or twice

funny

Look, we’re all human. We all think stuff that’s not work appropriate. I’m not just talking about sexual stuff; some days I’m sitting in a client meeting and thinking “man I have really bad swamp ass right now I can’t wait till this guy is done talking so I can go deal with it” or whatever. Work isn’t life, and there’s life outside of work, and we all think about it and that’s ok.

But some topics are not appropriate for the workplace. I wouldn’t expound on my theory that a really good dump is the most underrated feeling at work. I’m not ashamed of it or feel it’s offensive; it’s just not work appropriate. Commenting on the sexual attractiveness of others in the workplace is equally not work appropriate. Don’t talk about it.

Do it all the time assuming I’m friends with my project team.

Are you a man or a woman? 🤣

Depends how universally hot the guy is

Any help is appreciated.

PTO means time off.

Not kind of time off. Not "hey could you do this one thing for me". Not "trying to save the client money so use your PTO but you'll be working". Not "let's turn everything into an emergency so they have to work".

It isn't a suggestion that they are unavailable. They are unavailable.

If you don't respect their time off, then why should anyone respect yours?

Do not be reaching out to your teammates that are on PTO.

Whatever it is, it can wait.

Share your best work tips and tricks! For example, I recently spent about an hour setting up rules in Outlook to auto-filter junk emails and non-urgent emails (client alerts, data room notifications, bar association emails, etc.) into a separate folder that I can check a couple times a day. Don’t know how I didn’t think to do this years ago, but that’s about 50 fewer distractions each day since I’m one of those people who checks every email notification.

Does anyone have any tips for selling “over the top” type comedic ideas? It’s one of those things I’ve always wanted to make at least once in my career but is just sooo difficult to justify from a client’s POV. I usually try to give my pov on why I think it would work but the truth is that I think it’d be a good idea just because it’s funny. How do you sell ideas that, in all honesty, are just meant to entertain people.

How common is it to staff more juniors on a project as the project goes along? For reference, I’m a first year corporate associate. For a few different projects, I’ve started as being the only/main junior on a project and then other first years were added over time. I haven’t gotten negative feedback per se, but I’m wondering if this is happening because I’m not able to work as fast/efficiently as they expect, or if this is normal practice as projects progress.

I am so overwhelmed ladies. My partner and I are migrating overseas and have 3 weeks before the scheduled departure date. The problem is that our visa hasn’t arrived yet (we’re outside of the expected waiting times). Although we calculated a buffer for such event, I am getting more and more anxious that there will be more delays. I literally don’t have a place to stay anymore by end of the month and I still need to grind at work. It’s a lot to take on top of starting a new life overseas.
