Is it okay to ask my assistant to scan the handwritten notes to PDF?
When reading statutes, I need to print them out and read line by line, but it would be nice to have the handwritten notes in the electronic version.

I work at a new, small firm. We get 10 days of PTO. For family/medical leave, we get 20 days paid and then 20 days unpaid. But policy says we have to take our PTO concurrently with paid family/medical leave. That’s weird, right? It’s like you end up losing paid leave days. It makes sense to do it concurrently with unpaid leave but not paid leave, right?

Tips for year end review as a 2nd year associate hoping for a raise and promotion

Just moved from Big4 to law firm. When going over feedback on client work you did, that’s non-billable training time, correct? It seems obvious to me, but I don’t want to ask such an obvious question to people at my new job. I’d just like some confirmation that this is correct.

What AML 100 firms have laid people off, reduced salaries or cut summer programs? It seems there is a lot of this starting to happen stealthly.

How much do exit opportunities actually correlate to the law firm you’re working at? I often hear people advising to shoot for the V10s for the best exits, but do those firms actually give better chances than a V30? Are V10 clients only hiring directly from V10s? Trying to figure out whether choosing a V30 that I really liked over a V10 (that will probably make me hate my life) would actually be detrimental to future opportunities.

What’s the standard for paralegal gifts? Same as for assistant?

I'm a first year lit associate and I think I've made a big mistake. I actually hate litigation and want to make the switch into transactional work, particularly capital markets. Is it too late to make the switch? I can't believe that I had to make such a big life decision after what was basically a remote summer last year.
