Getting to friendship levels with clients was always a benefit. The partners at the first firm I worked for in consulting worked incredibly hard to become friends with certain clients, inviting them to kids weddings and all that. It’s how they kept them from going to market haha

Yeah I’ve gone on trips with my clients!
I am! But it was easier when I rolled off and there was no risk of a perception of conflict of interest.

Yes. I always view my clients as friends and make an effort to keep in touch with them when the project ends. During work hours we chat about things unrelated to work because well, you’re not constantly thinking about work all the time and have other things that make you you. I find building a personal relationship with my client allows for a better working relationship. I care about them as people to and it serves to build long lasting relationships

I often find when I have other women clients they are often the only woman in the team and don’t have many allies. We are able to connect on that experience since I’m also on male dominated teams and I’m able to provide them with advice on being more confident, sharing their perspective and standing in their beliefs. We can connect on those shared experiences in a way that my male colleagues don’t even think about.
Male or female client?
Oh then I think that makes it easier! I’d say go for it! I was pretty close with my female client as well and there were no issues. I think it actually helped with the project dynamics too.

Generally seems to make things easier — if for no other reason than that you can speak with less bs
