This is purely an optional perk, not something that is part of your actual compensation. It is not something your employer owes you, nor something they are obligated to notify you in advance about changing. If you don’t like the price increase, you are not required to buy the product. At the end of the day, your employer is a business and they make money by selling their products, whether that’s to you or to other customers.
I agree - they don't have to offer it all, so they can choose to hike the price up by whatever they really want. If the products are worth it and you still get a discounted rate, I don't see the issue
Companies don't owe employees a discount. The key word is "perk". With costs going up across the board, most businesses will be raising their prices, and that may include employee-purchased products as well. It is what it is.
A lot of costs are going up right now, so I’m not surprised to hear this. I don’t know if a small increase is much to be upset about, particularly if it’s still usable and at a substantially less than cost than is available to the public. If the product would otherwise be garbage…. We’ll, that got me to wondering why employees would be charged at all. And the best reason I could guess is some employees are hoarding/ profiting from discard product re-sales? Is it possible anyone could be actually causing discard product to exploit the off -sales? I guess, being in Human Resources, I’ve learned that there are often reasons things are done that can’t publicly be discussed that actually do make sense. You could try talking to you manager about it.
Agreed!
It is kinda annoying that they would be raising prices on what are "unsellable" products that they wouldn't be making money on anyway. I think that's probably what's most wrong about this scenario. To me, it does sound like they're fleecing you.
I think I would be very slightly annoyed by it, but not hurt. From their view, you have the option to simply not buy the product.
I mean yes its annoying that they raised the prices. But it is a perk and they are offering you a disount. I don't think you should be upset about it.
