You do you. They would not be concerned about letting you go if they needed to
No decent person would be upset if you quit, it’s totally understandable
It is totally ok, you may burn some bridges w people you work with directly, but mostly no. I had a manager that did this and I understood. Not unethical at all!
Thanks M1!
You might end up burning some bridges depending on your role but you should do what's best for you and your family. Something to consider is whether you'll have to reimburse your employer for any benefits they covered for you while you were on leave.
Yes! Good point!! Thanks fur sharing
No burning bridges at all. People understand that maternity is life changing and you do what’s best for you and your family. I’d say just make sure you give heads up to mentors, say thanks for support etc (if you feel it) and do what you think is right. Good luck!
Someone did it at my dept + explained it clearly that sue wanted more work life balance now that she has her son
Was well accepted, we threw her a farewell party
No issue. I’ve seen people quit and then a few years later come back. As long as you aren’t going to a competitor, they should always see you as either a future employee or a future customer and either way, a brand ambassador.
For how many years did you work for the firm before taking the leave benefit?
Thanks D1, would you look at such a person negatively? I.e. would you you feel that the person acted less than ethically
Just don’t come back for 1 day to re-up your insurance/ benefits and then quit. I’ve managed two women that have done that, and it’s really screwed over other women on my team who could have been promoted and moved into those roles. I lost the headcount and couldn’t hire replacements into those positions.
I guess my question is what would you have done/told her if she did call you?
