Is it possible that we are seeing a rise in ADHD diagnoses due to the need of schools and companies to always push to do more and maximize everything? I was diagnosed later in life.

It’s also being discovered that girls/women have been heavily under diagnosed so at least ime many of the people being recently diagnosed are women

I think it’s mostly that ADHD is being talked about more openly now, especially on social media, that people are realizing they might have had it their whole lives and never known because of stigma and misconceptions.

We are also starting to have a cultural reckoning about work “productivity” and burnout, finally realizing (thanks to the pandemic) that this hamster wheel culture we’ve built is unsustainable for even neurotypical people. The chronic burnout the past few years has led more people to reach out for help, and in that process some are learning they have ADHD. But correlation is not causation.

Now everyone wants people to work until burnout. How are you supposed to have energy to focus on anything?

Can anyone tell me the route you took to getting a true diagnosis and if taking the medication provides a chemical balance only or is your brain going to be altered from taking the medication?

I am out of Adderall and have about 40 hours of work to do this weekend. I’ve been calling my prescriber since yesterday at 9am and she’s usually super quick to call in my Rx.. but this time the front office just kept telling me “she hasn’t gotten to it yet” and now they’re closed for the weekend. Feeling so defeated. What do I even do? It takes me 3x as long to do anything without it and it’s almost painful trying to sit still and work..

I am a woman with pretty severe ADHD. I’ve taken medicine pretty much every day since I was diagnosed as a child. Currently I take Vyvanse with 10 mg Adderall. Even with the medicine, I sometimes I feel like I’m barely a functioning adult. My SO and I maybe want kids but I’m terrified of 1) do I have to stop medicine while pregnant and breast feeding, 2) could I even do my job without medicine, and 3) could I really take care of a baby?!? I’d love to hear other’s experiences or thoughts! Thanks!

Not sure if this is an ADHD symptom or a form of avoidance that’s specific to me but since I’ve started working, I feel physically incapable of keeping up with my friendships and relationships, like the bandwidth is completely gone. I have been working with a therapist since January and discovered I have ADHD, which has explained so much for me. I am still learning about it and trying to accept it, but I am really hesitant to even begin thinking about taking meds for it. Maybe it’s denial and I need to get over that mindset of “I can fix this” or that there’s nothing “wrong” with me and that adhd it’s just a phase in my life, but I really am just not there yet. Are there any natural things anyone has found to be helpful?
