In general - joining MBB is life transforming and all the crappy things about consulting go away.

Agree to disagree

Probably in NYC, only if you focus on financial services

No travel:

Tech work in Bay Area
FS work in New York
Private Equity work almost anywhere

Depends.
- 2015/2016: little travel, not optimizing that hard
- 1H2017: all the travel, prob 75 nights
- 2H17: very little
- 2018: very little, optimizing hard to kelp it that way
- 1H2019: brutal, 75 nights thru July with 2 of the preceding months OFF
- 2H2019: I left

I kept it low a lot and only did 16 full M-Th weeks in 4.5 years. Monday 10pm flight to Th 2pm flight far more common.

No. Good mix of local clients. And focused on work that didn’t need high touch/had small client teams. Lots of M&A (target screen, DD, some pre-MI), Corp start, TSR, growth Strat. Higher touch stuff I did (op model) was mostly local.

I also don’t travel and I’m from DC. Fed and energy are huge here

It’s pretty easy at most Bain North American offices

Can you post / DM what groups do you work with? <I’m right now going through an injury but don’t want to hold my lifelong dream of working in strategy for once. >
That will be so helpful, thank you!

Oils and gas or chemicals in Houston, retail/cpg, telecom in Dallas, tech is Austin. Multiple different industries in Chicago. In many offices >40% of work is local and if you have a compelling reason staffing can make that happen. I have been 100% local for the last year because I have asked staffing for that. The drawback is I have been in three different industries. So if you focus on capability not industry it is a lot easier to be local.

What's the most effective way for a small RIA to recruit FAs who have a few years experience, want to break away from large/corporate firms? I'm a $70M fee-only (commissions for insurance) independent RIA with a generous comp schedule that enables FAs to own their own book while they grow. As the owner, my focus is to help FAs succeed; as a firm, our focus is on client service and helping them succeed. I can afford a small salary, but not benefits. I'm especially interested in female FAs.

Hi all!

I have worked in business development for 5 years and quit my work late last year due to personal reasons. I'm now actively looking to get back into work and am considering Luxembourg as an option. Any idea how the job market is w.r.t. non-technical roles(account manager, account executive, etc.) and will companies sponsor visa for such roles??
I am currently based in Madrid where I was last employed.

confession: Today I got a little too aggressive on the pint of ice cream in the freezer that only had a few bites in it. I came to realize the only way to not catch heat was to eat it all, go to the store and replace it, take a few bites of the new one, then destroy the evidence. Wife had no idea when she opened it after dinner. My life has come to sneaking treats and I don’t know how to feel about it.
