You don’t have to care about the client’s problem specifically, but you do have to care about the client’s success. If you can’t do that, ultimately you won’t find this career rewarding.

like

It certainly is possible to do well even if you don’t care. But I think it’s unsustainable in the long-term (over years and decades). Eventually you’ll hit a wall and it’ll feel like a grind and since you don’t necessarily care about their work, it won’t let you dig deep when you need to. If you view your career as a competition against other people to the top, there’s gonna be someone just as talented who does care about the client’s problem and that might be the edge it takes to do better than you.

Regardless of your feelings, if what you do is indeed valuable for the client that’s a good thing. Just don’t sell something the client doesn’t actually need, or overpromise and screw the team.

Will I ruin my career if I let my boss know that my coworker in a group project hasn't been doing his assigned work? Just started this new job and the cowork started a few months before me. We split the work early on and I finished my part days ago. The project is due very soon. When I check its progress today I was shocked to find no progress has been made. With the deadline approaching, the only way to meet it is I work on the whole thing now. In this case, should I let my boss know?

I’m new to the world of billable hours. I like to keep organized, so I do spend a small bit of time making/updating case lists and contact sheets to make sure I have record of last contact with client/OC, where I am in suit, relevant deadlines, etc. Do you bill for this kind of work?

Hi! I’m majoring in IT & don’t know what I want to go into once I graduate. I’ve been set on getting an internship but it looks like I’m too late to land one for summer 2022 so I’m going to prepare for summer 2023. I’m anxious because I have no experience being 20 years old. I have 4-5 years of customer service experience but so does every student. What internships are more accepting of beginners? Project management, technical account Manager, Systems engineer maybe? Still learning the field.
