I do a pretty decent amount of push-ups (and also in the army) and can't say I have ever had this (female, pretty good shape). That being said, you might just be sore from shocking your body into a workout it doesn't usually do. Also, make sure you engage your core while performing the push-ups. Keep a straight back and almost suck in to keep your core solid.
If you’re doing push-ups correctly, you are using your core for stability. So yes, you should be experiencing some abdominal soreness if you don’t normally engage your core often. I experience this when I run even...
