I have a case that's based on a previously litigated matter now brought against another D. I can bring it in State Court where other D was or I can bring it in Fed Court through Diversity. I trust State Court judges in this court and the filing fee is alot less. It might be removed anyway so should I just file in Fed Court?

How do you navigate finding your way off a particular team? A couple of years ago, we had a bit of an associate exodus and I began working for a way too big amount of partners, including the ones with niche practices. Anytime I work with this one partner, I get incredibly stressed because he, his clients, and his projects make me miserable. I've told the partner before that I'd like to transition off, but he doesn't want to train a new associate and won't let me train one. Any thoughts?

Just finished my first year in big law. In a niche practice area that could transfer well to in house position if they are looking for someone specializing in this area (many of our clients are GCs in this exact role), however I worry those jobs may not be abundant. I want to jump in 3-4 years. What can I do in the meantime to make myself look appealing as a more general GC candidate assuming my ideal job isn’t out there at that time?

I accepted a position as an associate at a boutique family law firm about 2 months ago. This is my second job as an attorney. My first role was unrelated to family law. With that being said—I’m learning new things every single day.
However, I’ve noticed that my supervisor has a tendency to tell me that I’m going to argue a Motion for one of her cases that I know nothing about (I am assigned my own caseload) the DAY BEFORE the scheduled motion hearing.

How many rounds of interviews do firms usually do for laterals? I have a first round coming up with a co-chair, partner and associate in the group I’ve applied to, but it’s unclear whether that’s just a screener/I’d have to do callbacks. If relevant, I’m being poached by a partner that just joined from my current firm so my understanding was that I’d be fast-tracked.

I need some direction. My sister-in-law's mother has early onset dementia and is in a memory care home as she cannot take care of herself and requires too much care for her kids to take on personally. While in the home today, she had a seizure and fell to the ground. Per the cameras in her room, she was down for 25 min. She got herself up and fell again. She wasn't found for another 17 min. Can you share your tips on how to be more productive in a home office scenario?

Put off a 50 state survey I’m supposed to do for a partner. Just started and spent an hour doing just Alabama—off to a great start!!! 🙄 Time to drown my non-billable sorrows with tater tots.

As a second year associate, I have a reasonable 1800 billable requirement and make $70k, but I don’t feel aligned with the firm. I want more WLB. We don’t work remotely and I don’t have schedule flexibility. I am considering pivoting to a contracts analyst position (glorified doc review) because it’s 100% remote, same pay, has a 40 hour cap (rather than my current minimum!), flexible hours, and no billables or stress. Would this be a bad idea for my career? Input appreciated!

I’ve been in my career for a while but I’m wondering how do you as an attorney calculate your years of experience? From the date you graduated? Date you were sworn in? Jan 1 each year? Some other metric? Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts!

I am currently in immigration law and would like to pivot to a higher paying area of law. Any recommendations? I only have experience in immigration as an attorney.
