You can make enough to live on and retire well, and work for major nonprofits and NGOs, but you have to be willing to make small sacrifices in terms of salary and being more frugal. It could balance out with the sense of purpose you get in helping make the world a better place. Clay Christensen who wrote the book “how will you measure your life” often brings up seeing HBS classmates at reunions who are deeply unhappy regardless of their high net worth. Decide for yourself. Nonprofit CEO salaries are published as part of their annual reporting.
I appreciate your response. I am not interested in climbing a corporate ladder or aiming to be a millionaire. I don't care for flashy watches and cars. I just want to be able to comfortably care for my family, pay for their schooling and eventually afford a decent house so that my children and their future children always have a place to come home to if needed.
I'm not getting younger and I want to go to bed at night feeling good about what I'm doing with my life and be a positive example for my college bound kids. I've been thinking about this a lot lately but am not sure how to find the right fit or to transition.
You are asking the wrong group of people.
