LOL I wake up in the middle of the night thinking of my students and their work
Take a sabbatical. If you are dreaming of school and kids then you need a break.
I’m usually okay until Sunday. That’s when I start getting the Monday is coming again anxiety
I am good on Saturday but by Sunday afternoon the school week plans come out.
I'm not the OP, but I've been teaching for 17 years, and I'm constantly thinking about school during the weekend, summers, Christmas break, etc.
Why? Have to balance your life. There is more than work. You and I have been teaching the same amount of time. You work to live not the other way. Breaks are for breaks. Keep your things at school over Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break. Only slightly tinker with lesson plans on a yearly basis; don't rebuild Rome. Sometimes working smarter and not harder for the same or better payout is better. Your mental health is everything.
Have a gallbladder attack. Guarantee no thoughts of school
Easy I just don’t 😂
Connecticut Elementary School post : instead of guessing in the form of a question… why not helping by answering … :) teachers with many years of experience are likely to wonder as well. It’s perfectly normal to still think about our job on the weekend, especially for those of us who really care about what we do and who we’re going this for. It’s part of our lives. 24 hours in a day is plenty of time to balance work with personal time.
Colorado middle school: to answer your question: I don’t know if it is completely possible. For some , perhaps. For many, experienced teachers or not, it can be difficult. You will find out YOUR own answer in time. There’s no right , nor wrong answer; only what works for you :)
I think about the kids I work with. Many times they come from a bad home environment and I worry about them. I have been a paraprofessional for 13 years and I still take the job home with me. Even after they live school, I still wonder how they are.
leave school. I couldn't figure out how to edit.
I’m guessing you’re a new teacher?
Piece of cake...I think of the billions of things I have to do around my house with my kids and wife. It's called work/life balance. The earlier you develop a good work/life balance the less likely you are to burn yourself out. Use your time wisely during the week and have little to do on Sunday. It's not as hard as you think.
With hybrid teaching, I have no time during the week. Our prep periods have been shortened because there are additional duties around the school. I used to be able to get some things done while students were working independently. Now, I've got to check in on the kids over zoom. I spend my weekends doing what I used to be able to accomplish in my prep periods (and staying an hour after school) , but now I have no time to get it done at work. It has to be done sometime. And then I'll wake up in the middle of the night worrying about the things that need to be done.
