Completely my opinion but most actual consulting companies have pretty shitty WLB. Transitioning back to tech may not be bad but I feel tech is the better space to be in. Also, depending on the tech company, they may have a consulting wing like IBM does
Probably. I am a consultant for a tech company - while there is a focus on sales, I am deep in the tech and delivering on contracts. I am in tech even though I am a consultant. I guess it depends on what flavor of consulting you are doing. There are data science consultants here that put together models for contracts they have won, or do POCs to win more contracts. I think of consulting as tech for client…
In the consulting arm - not too much. There is pressure to use some if not most IBM products - but there is not suppose to be. Like the sales folks will be like why are you planning on using this? The use case fits and we are like yeah the use case fits but that is not the best option, and we want to present the best fit for our project, that may or may not be IBM tech. Some friction but overall not to bad. Just from what I’ve seen. It might be worse in some other places.
I think so, I don't see why not. You'll obviously gain something in your consulting experience and you could do a course/something to help pivot back into tech

Why would you want to work more and be paid less? Most consultants dream of tech exit opportunities.

I'd enjoy seeing a variety of ways in which people work
