[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

HSBC Results are out HSBC’s pre-tax profits almost doubled to $2.7bn in the final quarter of 2021 as the UK lender’s commercial banking revenues were buoyed by growth in credit and lending. Reflection of these results on employees : Single digit hikes even for top performers. Same scene continues from past 3 years now. HSBC

Just say no
Yes. Unless literally everyone on the project is in the same boat (e.g. it’s in the middle of nowhere) then it’s absolutely reasonable
In some circumstances, reasonable. I once had a partner complaining to me about how utilization was low and people didn’t want to fly from New York to San Francisco for his project. I explained how difficult the travel would be with that time change added on, as it seemed like a very reasonable objection to me.
If you keep saying no to a bunch of projects, if your utilization is low, if your skill set is sorely needed and hard to replace, or if the leadership team is influential in your firm and you would burn relationships with them by doing so, then it may be a bigger problem for you.
Sunday travel and leave early on Thursday. It's not uncommon especially during cross country travel
If everyone has the same issue (ie client is middle of nowhere Nebraska) - yes unreasonable
If you would be the only one- yes totally fair to raise
City is in middle of nowhere and many cities that my practice has more people in have direct flights to the location
Would obviously be different if there isn’t an expectation I’m on site by 10am Monday til 6pm Thursday
Let me know how that works out for you! I was part of a team staffed in middle America and we all had connecting flights (team came from CA, NY, AZ, etc). Total time door to door was about 7 hours- if we weren’t delayed or cancelled. Most of us also didn’t land till 1am the following day.
Perhaps you have the best skill sets for the client
I did this for over a year, about 3/4 of the team had a short direct flight, while a handful of us had very long/complicated flights with tons of delays/cancellations/issues every week. For us, was just part of the gig and there was no saying no “just because of travel"
Connections raise the possibility of travel delays exponentially.
But sometimes there is no other choice.
