I’d give them your preferred start date but say it could be negotiable if that timeline doesn’t work. That way they won’t pass up on you before you get to the offer stage. And if you do end up getting there and they want you to start before year end, ask for them to cover your bonus payout, which probably wouldn’t make sense for them But Jan start date is definitely not unreasonable at this point.
Agreed, we are getting closer to the end of the year most places will be spinning down. If they have a need maybe you can negotiate a bonus to match what you will be missing otherwise brining you on right now wouldn’t be useful for everyone.
Get your offer first then negotiate. 4-6 weeks notice are not unreasonable
Thanks for the advice - I've noticed recruiters have been asking me up front though what my timing is so are you suggesting I dodge the question, get the offer, and revisit that later?
